What To Expect

After your consultation, your exam will consist of thorough orthopedic, neurological, chiropractic, radioliological (if necessary), and most importantly our unique soft tissue exam. This means a complete examination of the muscles, tendons and ligaments. In addition, we perform manual muscle testing to determine strength, gait analysis, evaluate flexibility and assess your postural presentation. If at any time during your exam or treatment other tests such as blood work, MRI, Cat Scan, or consultation with specialists are needed, we can provide you with a referral to quality professionals. In addition, we encourage a team approach through communication with your primary care or referring physician. Our central focus is simply to provide the best possible level of care.

  • Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT)

Spinal Manipulative Therapy (SMT)/Joint mobilization/manipulation involves improving mobility in areas that currently have less than normal movement. Tight muscles, taut ligaments, or problems in the joints themselves may cause the decreased movement. If pain is associated with this decreased movement, loosening up the structure that causes the restriction can often relieve the pain. In order to prevent the pain from returning a short time after the mobilization, other treatments need to be performed such as certain stretching and strengthening exercises.

For more information on SMT visit WebMD.

  • Corrective Exercises/Rehabilitation

Dr. Eng prescribes a series of specific movements for each patient designed to facilitate the healing process. These corrective exercises help to decrease pain, restore muscular balance. improve proprioception, core strength, flexibility, and stability to prevent future injuries. These exercise programs teach the patient how to prevent the pain from re-occurring so that they do not have to frequently return to the therapist.  These movements are powerful tools that build upon the techniques that Dr. Eng uses in each session and is the cornerstone of what makes treatments at 14th St. Chiropractic efficient and effective.
